What is the plastic tax?
The UK’s Plastic Tax according to which manufacturers and importers of plastics packaging containing less than 30% of recycled plastic have to pay £200 per metric tonne has been effective since 1 April 2022. It is only applicable where certain thresholds are met (in the case of an importation of 10 or more tonnes of plastic packaging within a 12 month period). This tax represents an obstacle for these manufacturers and importers who have to change the products they are used to to avoid it.
